Veteran-Owned. Serving Cedar Rapids Since 1986. No-Dig Sewer Repairs Done Right.
Cured-in-place pipe lining (CIPP) repairs a damaged sewer line from the inside out. A flexible, resin-saturated liner is inserted into the existing pipe and cured until it hardens into a new pipe within the old one. No continuous trench. No torn-up lawn. Just a rehabilitated sewer line.
Master Plumbing, Heating & Cooling has served Cedar Rapids homeowners since 1986 as a veteran-owned, locally operated team. CIPP is one of several in-house plumbing services we perform, backed by 24/7 availability and same-day scheduling when your sewer situation can’t wait.
Sewer problems rarely announce themselves clearly. More often, you notice something odd and wonder whether it’s worth a call. These symptoms suggest your line deserves a closer look:
Slow drains throughout the house rather than one isolated fixture backing up
Sewage odors coming from drains or from the yard near the sewer line path
Gurgling toilets when a sink or shower runs elsewhere in the home
Soggy or unusually green grass over the sewer lateral where nutrients are leaking out
Debris or waste backing up into tubs or floor drains
Cured-in-place pipe lining works well when a pipe has cracks, leaking joints, or root intrusion but still retains enough shape to accept a liner. Many older Cedar Rapids homes have clay or cast-iron sewer laterals, and these materials are common candidates for relining as they age and degrade.
One important limit: if a pipe has fully collapsed, lining isn’t possible. A sewer camera inspection is the only way to know which condition you’re dealing with. We run that inspection in-house before recommending any repair path.

How the CIPP Process Works
Our process follows a clear sequence so you know what to expect at every stage.
Step 1: Camera Inspection
We run a sewer camera through your line to locate damage, measure the pipe, and confirm whether relining is the right approach. This step also rules out a fully collapsed section that would require replacement instead.
Step 2: Pipe Cleaning
Before the liner goes in, the pipe is cleaned. Hydro jetting removes accumulated debris, grease, and root intrusion so the liner makes full contact with the pipe wall.
Step 3: Liner Insertion and Cure
A resin-saturated liner is inserted into the pipe and inflated against the interior wall. Heat, steam, or UV light cures the resin until it hardens into a rigid, jointless pipe within the original pipe. Cure times vary based on pipe diameter, liner material, and site conditions.
Step 4: Final Inspection
A second camera pass confirms a complete, uniform cure. The finished liner is smooth and seamless, which can help resist future root intrusion and support proper flow through the line.

CIPP vs. Traditional Open-Trench Sewer Repair
Traditional sewer repair means digging. A trench runs the length of the damaged pipe, cutting through whatever sits above it: grass, brick pavers, concrete driveways, established tree roots. Once the pipe is replaced, the surface has to be restored separately, adding time and cost on top of the original repair.
Cured-in-place pipe lining needs only small access points at each end of the work zone, leaving the surface above the line largely undisturbed. For Cedar Rapids properties with mature trees, shared driveways, or patios built over an aging sewer lateral, that difference can be significant.
There are cases where lining isn’t an option. A severely collapsed pipe requires full replacement. In those situations, trenchless pipe bursting can minimize surface disruption even when relining isn’t possible. Our camera inspection determines which path makes sense for your line before we recommend anything.
